Using a fitness estimate as a planning tool
Match the input to the activity
Distance, elapsed time, load, repetitions and heart rate describe different aspects of exercise. A pace uses time per distance; speed uses distance per time. A decimal minute is a fraction of 60 seconds, so a pace shown as 5.5 min/km means 5 minutes 30 seconds per kilometer.
Prediction equations depend on their chosen method and supported range. Repetition-based strength estimates are not measured maximums, and age-based heart-rate estimates are not individual exercise prescriptions. Use the units and method stated by this specific tool.
Compare like-for-like sessions
Keep the activity, intensity, duration and measurement convention consistent when comparing results. A change in an entered assumption can change the calculation without demonstrating a change in fitness.
Review population and safety limits before using the estimate. The worked example demonstrates the arithmetic; the current result remains conditional on your measurements and the equation’s assumptions.
Formula and calculation method
Selects the lowest 8 of the most recent 20 official Score Differentials and rounds their mean to one decimal. Enter official differentials that already include course/slope ratings and playing-conditions adjustments.
Scope and Limitations
- This is the uncapped 20-score base estimate, not an official Handicap Index. Exceptional-score reductions, soft/hard caps, committee adjustments and fewer-than-20-score rules are excluded.
